Transitioning to Supervisor

This course will present basic supervisory skills and theories.  Participants in the workshop will have an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to become successful supervisors.  Participants will identify areas in which they have strengths as well as areas  which may need improvement.  This program will present skill building using adult learning techniques.

Learning Objectives:
Define the difference between supervision and management
List the traits of a successful supervisor
Describe supervisory styles
Describe the scope, roles and duties of a supervisor
Identify and develop leadership skills
Identify and apply motivational techniques

Making the Transition
  Define the difference between supervision and management and explain how they are interrelated
Evaluate alternatives and use the best approach when taking over a new unit
Supervisory Challenges
  List the traits of a successful supervisor
Describe supervisory styles
Assess their personal style
Roles and Responsibilities
  Describe the scope, roles and duties of a supervisor
Develop skills in each of the following areas:
          Delegating
          Decision-Making
          Counseling
Leadership and Motivation
  Identify and develop leadership skills
Identify and apply motivational techniques
Develop techniques for dealing with special challenges
