Obstacles
to Opportunities:
Managing
Change in the 21st Century
The
idea of change as a smoothly
flowing river may once
have seemed appropriate,
but whatever change is
today it is anything but
smooth. For centuries
change was slow, gradual,
manageable. That is no
longer the case; none of
us is insulated from the
effects of change. It
surrounds us, we are surrounded
by it, and we live in it. The
challenge is how to deal
with it on a day-to-day,
hour-to-hour and sometimes
minute-to-minute basis.
Many
organizations today are
asking their people to
flex with and respond to
change. Change is
about energy and focusing
that energy. It is
about taking personal,
responsibility. Taking
charge of change instead
of letting change take
charge of you.
